The management of glaucoma is a challenge in veterinary ophthalmology. This course describes glaucomatous disease, reviewing its pathophysiology and clinical features. The complementary examinations available to the practitioner are then detailed, and practical examples are presented in the form of clinical reports and videos. The various medical and surgical treatment options are presented, as well as the clinical follow-up of the patient.
The final day is devoted to a practical workshop on the use of Ahmed valves in glaucoma surgery.

Present the various complementary examinations currently available to improve the detection of patients and refine the prognosis of their care.
Learn about the various treatment options available for glaucoma, and their limitations.
Know how to place an Ahmed valve

Thierry Azoulay
DVM, DESV-Opht, DIU de chirurgie rétino-vitréenne, DIU d’OCT Instructor

Dr Thierry Azoulay is heading the ophthalmology department of Agoravet, a private veterinary referral center in Strasbourg France. He is past president (2015-2021) and past vice-president (2021-2024) of the GEMO (Ophthalmology group of the French veterinary continuing education association) and member of the board of the French Eye Panelist Association. He is teaching surgery of the lens at the Surgery School of Nancy, giving lectures at the Ophthalmology Course (CES) of the Veterinary School of Toulouse and at the Ophthalmology Course (DE) of the Veterinary School of Maisons Alfort. As a clinician-scientist, he is particularly interested in lens, glaucoma and retinal surgery. Dr. Azoulay is a diplomate of the French college of veterinary ophthalmologists (DESV-Opht) and a Fellow of the REOVVA (European Network of Ophthalmology and animal vision). He is also certified in vitreo-retinal surgery (DIU de chirurgie rétino-vitréenne), in ocular surface (DIU surface oculaire) and in OCT (DIU d’OCT).

I have an extensive experience in treating patients with corneal ulcers and CXL procedure (more than 300 cases in the last years) and I have taken responsibility of leading the group of veterinary ophthalmologists committed in the cross-linking applications in animals.

Virginie Fouque
DVM, DE-OPHT, DIU Ocular Surface Instructor

Graduated from the National Veterinary School in Alfort (ENVA) in 2009, she spent several years working in small animal and equine general practice before deciding to focus on ophthalmology. She completed her training in ophthalmology in National Veterinary School in Alfort gaining her certificate (DE d’ophtalmologie), then she became French pannelist for hereditary eye diseases, and graduated in ocular surface (DIU de surface oculaire). Today she has a dedicated ophthalmology practice near Orleans. Since 2021, she is a member of Groupe d’Etude sur les Maladies Oculaires and participates in ophthalmology training for general practitioners.
