Thromboembolic disease and coagulation disorders represent some of the most challenging and rapidly evolving areas in small animal medicine.
This intensive two-day course brings together expertise in Cardiology, Emergency and Critical care to provide veterinarians with a practical, evidence-based approach to understanding, diagnosing, treating, and preventing thromboembolic disease in dogs and cats.
Designed for general practitioners, interns, and residents, the program combines lectures, case-based discussions, interactive panels, and hands-on workshops to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of hemostasis, hypercoagulability, thromboembolic omplications associated with cardiac disease, and the latest advances in antithrombotic therapy and critical care management.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the physiological mechanisms underlying thrombosis and hemostasis.
- Recognize common causes of bleeding and thrombotic disorders in dogs and cats.
- Interpret coagulation testing, including TEG and ROTEM.
- Utilize cardiac and point-of-care ultrasound to identify thromboembolic disease.
- Diagnose and manage feline arterial thromboembolism and pulmonary thromboembolism.
- Select appropriate antithrombotic therapies and monitoring strategies.
- Manage complex coagulopathies and thrombotic emergencies in the critical care setting.
- Apply evidence-based prevention strategies in high-risk cardiac patients.
- Integrate cardiology and emergency-critical care perspectives into daily clinical practice.
This highly interactive program is designed to provide immediately applicable clinical skills while offering participants a deeper understanding of the evolving science of thrombosis and coagulation in veterinary medicine.
