Ana Lara Garcia

Ana graduated from the University of Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain in 1998 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and completed a PhD in platelet function in dogs with cancer in 2003. She then moved to the Ohio State University (OSU), USA, where she completed an internship in oncology and a residency in haematology and oncology. She passed boards in 2007 obtaining her diploma in Veterinary Oncology from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and also from European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA) in 2008. She is an RCVS recognised specialist in Veterinary Oncology. After a year as Oncology Clinical Instructor at OSU she joined in 2008 the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London, UK as lecturer. She developed the RVC Oncology Service at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals being the Head of Service from 2009 to 2014 and founder and head of the ACVIM Oncology residency program from 2009 to 2017. Ana was part of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Veterinary Oncology (ESVONC) for 10 years being its President from 2017-2021. Ana joined IDEXX UK in 2018 as Oncology consultant, currently she also holds this role at IDEXX Spain. She combines consulting with part time clinical work at AUNA Especialidades Veterinarias where she is the director of their ECVIM-CA Oncology residency Program. Ana is a member of the ECVIM-CA Oncology Exam committee. Her main interests in oncology are new anticancer therapies, rational approach to the cancer patient, lymphoma and mesotheliomas. Away from work, she enjoys cooking, photography and spending time with her family and cats.
