Il dolore nel gatto è molto complesso soprattutto nel riconoscimento delle sue manifestazioni; inoltre, anche la sua terapia è complessa a causa delle peculiarità tipiche di specie e anche al minor numero di trattamenti farmacologici a disposizione rispetto al cane.

In questo corso ci sarà la possibilità di imparare a riconoscere e trattare il dolore nel gatto grazie all’esperienza di 3 esperti mondiali di algologia felina che attraverso i loro studi hanno permesso di evidenziare molte delle espressioni comportamentali del dolore.
Si valuteranno il dolore acuto e cronico e la loro terapia in base alle più recenti pubblicazioni e scoperte in ambito algologico.

LECTURES WILL BE HELD IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Pain in cats is very complex, especially in the recognition of its manifestations; moreover, its therapy is complex due to the peculiarities typical of the species and also to the lower number of pharmacological treatments available compared to the dog.
In this course there will be the opportunity to learn to recognize and treat pain in cats thanks to the experience of 3 world experts in feline algology who, through their studies, have allowed us to highlight many of the behavioral expressions of pain.
Acute and chronic pain and their therapy will be evaluated on the basis of the most recent publications and recent discoveries in the field of algology.

Chiara Adami è laureata in Medicina Veterinaria (Università degli Studi di Perugia) con votazione di 110/110 con lode. È una Diplomata di entrambi i College Americano ed Europeo di Anestesiologia e Analgesia Veterinaria (Dipl. ACVAA e Dipl. ECVAA), ed è docente universitario di Anestesiologia Veterinaria da 8 anni. Ha lavorato presso l’Università di Berna e al Royal Veterinary College (Università di Londra), ed è attualmente docente presso l’Ateneo di Cambridge. È autrice di oltre 70 pubblicazioni internazionali su rivista scientifica, ed i suoi principali campi di ricerca e studio sono nocicezione e dolore negli animali da compagnia e anestesia e analgesia delle specie non convenzionali.

Jo Murrell is a veterinary surgeon who specialises in anaesthesia and pain management. She divides her time at work between clinical work (anaesthetising cats and dogs for surgery), teaching undergraduate veterinary students and veterinary nursing students, and research. Jo has a long track record in carrying out clinical research relating to pain management in cats and dogs and is passionate about promoting best practice in analgesia provision for companion animals.

Laureato a Torino nel 2003. Dal 2004 mi occupo di anestesia e terapia del dolore, dal 2010 di dolore cronico come freelance. Dal 2014 lavoro come anestesista e algologo a contratto presso la facoltà a Grugliasco (TO). Membro dell’IVAPM. Nel 2016 il master executive in anestesia del cane e del gatto organizzato da UNISVET certificato ACVAA e AVA. Dal 2017 mi occupo di laserterapia. Nel 2019 completato il corso UNISVET Hands on Analgesia. Da dicembre 2019 sono responsabile del gruppo di algologia di UNISVET. Nel 2020 il corso IVAPM, Pain Management Course. Nel 2021, 2022 e 2023 relatore al congresso nazionale UNISVET. Nel 2021 corso di alta formazione sulla terapia del dolore e le cure palliative negli animali, Perugia. Da gennaio 2022 sono membro del Comitato scientifico UNISVET. Nel 2023 docente al Master di anestesia e terapia del dolore presso l’università di Bologna.

Louise is a European and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. In 2014 she was awarded an MSc (Distinction) in the Clinical Management of Pain from Edinburgh University and Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2020 for Meritorious Contribution to Clinical Practice. She is currently Past President of the Pain Medicine Section Council at the Royal Society of Medicine and the JVP for the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists. She is the "Subject Matter Expert" in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine for Linnaeus. She is involved with charitable work in the developing world to improve the welfare and management of dogs undergoing anaesthesia in resource poor settings.
